Description
Kindlefall is Dark Souls meets Zelda meets Hades: a top-down 3D action roguelite that runs in a web browser, with no download or account.
The Kindlefall was the night the First Flame fell from the sky and burned its way into the earth. Players descend the seven floors it carved, carrying an Ember, a spark of that fire. They choose one of five heroes and fight with a three-hit combo, a dodge roll and a guard-breaking spell, taking boons between rooms that reshape each run. The bosses fight dirty: the Hollow King steals one of the player's powers mid-fight, and the Forge Heart rises out of molten lava. Cracked walls hide secret duels, and puzzle rooms guard relics.
Features
- No install, no account: click Play and it runs in your desktop browser.
- Five heroes who play nothing alike: the Ember Knight, the Barbarian, the Rogue, the Pyromancer and the Hollow.
- Seven floors, seven bosses with multiple phases, plus secret duels behind cracked walls and a superboss, the Kindled One.
- 200+ boons and relics: rarity, Stoke upgrades, Duos, Pacts and Legendaries.
- Smooth under pressure: packed fights hold 60 fps on our test machine (MacBook Pro M3 Max, Chrome, High preset), where a frame costs about 1.7 ms of CPU and GPU time. Measurements →
- Time that bends: hit-stop on every blow, slow-motion executions, last kills and boss deaths.
- Zelda-style secrets: walls that sound hollow, puzzle rooms, mimics.
- Souls-style touches: fog gates, posture breaks, executions, bloodstains, messages.
- Characters who remember you, and an ending that reflects your run.
- The Hearth: banked souls buy permanent upgrades between runs.
- Accessibility: adjustable screen shake and flash intensity, colour-blind danger markings, text size, rebindable attack, dodge, spell, flask and ability buttons on keyboard and gamepad, Photo Mode.
How it was made
Kindlefall was made with AI coding agents under Rudy Faile's direction. They wrote the code, built the game's own 3D models (the spiders and bosses among them, with CC0 model packs as inspiration), and generated the music and sound effects in code. It runs on three.js, with no other external dependencies.
